How Did It All Start?
Back in 1837, in Roubaix, this is the year in which the incredible adventure of La Redoute began. With his wife and children, Joseph Pollet, a son of a rural family, relocated to the capital of the French wool area. Joseph, the son of textile makers, founded the first worsted spinning plant, inventing several methods and earning a number of awards.
In 1873, Charles (Son of Joseph) took up the mantle and started a factory on the corner of rue de Blanchemaille & rue de La Redoute. The inspiration for the name came from a tiny stronghold (redoubt) that guarded Roubaix’s castle. It is possible that the theatre is called ‘Redoute’ (from the Italian ‘ridotta’).
In July 1995, La Redoute opened its doors to the UK. The company is a group of French people who are unique, modern, and fashionable, and affordable at the same time.
